Reading Response Essays
12 pts. each, 500 words per response,
due before class discussion of the reading
You will write two response essays on each text and send them to me to be posted on the class website.  Each essay should be a thoughtful exploration of the topic assigned.

Wood essay topic one: With which film and television characters do you identify? What does this tell you about how you see yourself and the values in which you believe?

Wood essay topic two: Our culture seems to promote a script that says persistence in pursuing relationships and potential partners pays off. Where does this "script" or societal message come from? What factors perpetuate and reinforce the belief that persistence ultimately leads to success, particularly where relationships are concerned?

Clampitt essay topic one: To what extent do you think humans act from free will?

Clampitt essay topic two: Now that you've considered theories that seek prediction and control and theories that highlight understanding, how do you evaluate these different goals?

LeStorti essay topic one: Compare two different American perspectives on leadership during this post-election year.

LeStorti essay topic two: Compare two different international perspectives on U.S. leadership during this post-election year.

In these responses, start off with a clear identification of the topic (and how it relates to the reading).  Examine how the author's presentation of relevant material relates to your knowledge base and other materials you have encountered.  Close with a clear stance on this issue.  Please note that these essays should not be written as journal entries.  Instead, they should be brief but complete arguments with proper APA style referencing of any sources used.

Commentaries on Response Essays
4 pts. each, 200 words per commentary,
due before class discussion of the reading
A significant portion of our class discussion will be held through communication on the class blackboard.  Therefore, it is critical that you participate in these discussions in meaningful ways.  To "inspire" you, you are required to post commentaries on your classmates' response essays.  Four commentaries are due for each text, before we discuss the reading in class.

LOS Job Fair Group Project
80 pts., due December 9
For your group project, you will design and implement a job fair for Lewiston Auburn Campus undergraduates.  On December 9, your group will give a creative and engaging presentation of your development of this project.  The main focus of this presentation should be on the communication and relationship building you had to do to complete this project, specifically connecting your learnings from the course to your efforts on this project.
