329 Grading
In order to pass the course all work must be completed.

20 pts.Participation
So that your classmates who do not know you can get some idea about who you are, you will build a homepage in Blackboard.  Make sure this homepage is complete with a brief bio and a photo or an avatar (see www.meez.com).  It is much easier to get to know one another if we start out with some basic awareness.

Attendance is extremely important.  Missing class, coming late, or leaving early is not recommended.  Classroom discussions will focus on developing your ability to use the material we will be covering in meaningful ways.  Also, please note that participation is 10% of your grade. If you must miss class, contact me in advance to make arrangements to get handouts, announcements, etc.  If you miss two or more classes, you will lose all points for attendance and will be expected to do additional work.

In-class exercises will be covered during most class periods.  These exercises will be primarily comprised of the exercises that follow each chapter assigned in the text.  I will expect that you will have thought about how you will address these questions before class begins.

40 pts.Group research review presentation and paper
The class will be divided into groups on May 26th to prepare creative and engaging 15-minute research review presentations for June 30th.  As a group, you will do a thorough analysis of the research paper you select and prepare a written research review using the format covered in Exercise 1, Chapter 13 of your Salkind text.  In your class presentations, you will give a brief summary of your research topic and then present your review of the article that your group chose.

60 pts.Weekly assignments
For Chapters 1-12 of the Salkind text, you will be assigned one written exercise per chapter to hand in.

80 pts.Final assignment
You will write a final research report at the end of the term.  We will be discussing this assignment many times and will do much of the work for this assignment together as a class.  A draft of the report will be due in class on July 28th.  The final draft will be due in class on August 11th.  I will reserve some time during classes to answer questions you may have about your finals.  In addition, I encourage you to meet with me during office hours or to see someone in the Writing Center if you wish more input while you are writing the final.  The finals will be evaluated not only for content but also for structure, grammar, spelling, etc.  After reports are returned, students who wish to may revise their work.  All revisions will be due by August 18th.
